Wine for the World

Bosman Family Vineyards Erfenis

This is a winemaker's wine.

Corlea Fourie, the Bosman Family Vineyards winemaker, aims through the Erfenis to "create a wine, if possible in a certain vintage, that encompasses the essence of that vintage. It should show off the very best wines of that year in one, exclusive blend."

Every year when tasting through the barrels, Corlea selects the best 5 barrels of the vintage - and it's not always within the same cultivar group. The Bosman Family lets nature, and the vintage, decide the blend. The blend is thus a true reflection of the winery's ode to harvest 2011. The wine, Erfenis, means "Heritage" in Afrikaans. Only 1200 bottles made.

The grapes from this vineyard come from granite and glen rosa soils. The components were treated separately and matured 18 months in French Oak, until two months before bottling, when the blend was finalized. The wine can be aged 7 to 10 years after the vintage.

This wine received 4.5 stars in Platter and Silver in Decanter's World Wine Awards.
